Ultherapy

Ultrasound energy has long been associated with radiation-free medical imaging but did you know it can also have applications in skin tightening? Ultherapy by Merz is the only FDA-approved High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) treatment programme for face and neck lifting.

Focused ultrasound waves are delivered to physician-directed layers of the face – skin, fat or muscular aponeurosis to regenerate new collagen and tighten the areas. Ultherapy is the gold-standard in non-invasive reduction of jowls, lifting of the lower face and cheeks and reducing loose skin in the neck (double chin).

What is the treatment process?

First, a thorough assessment and consultation will be done by your doctor. Numbing cream will be applied to the face and / or neck. Your doctor might recommend the use of other supplementary painkillers including a nerve block of the sensory nerves of the face. Removable skin markings may be made on the treatment areas if necessary. The procedure is done by a team of doctor and therapist – the physician will be using the Ultherapy probe and monitor to deliver precise shots of ultrasound energy to the desired layers of the face, while the therapist will be aiding the process by generously applying ultrasound gel.

What are the treatment effects?

Ultherapy has been FDA-cleared to treat all areas of the face and neck as well as the decolletage. Treated areas will appear tighter. It takes around 3-4 weeks to appreciate the results of the treatments and results continue to improve for up to 12 weeks. If a full face and neck Ultherapy session is performed, expect to see lifted cheeks, a slimmer face, a more defined jawline, less droopy jowls and a firmer, more youthful neck.

What are the side-effects of Ultherapy?

There will be transient redness of the skin after treatment that usually resolves spontaneously within 1 hour. Some patients feel mild soreness in their cheeks for up to 2 weeks after treatment. If a nerve block is performed, small injection marks may be noticeable for 2-3 days.

There is no downtime associated with Ultherapy treatment and one can immediately resume normal activities.

How long do the effects of Ultherapy last?

The superior lifting and tightening effects of Ultherapy can last 12-18 months after treatment. It is suggested that you repeat the treatment in 12 months to maintain the youthful post-treatment appearance. SBA Clinic recommends nightly use of Calecim Multi-Action Cream in combination with your daily skin care regime to maintain skin tautness and reduce the appearance of fine lines.
