A common beauty ideal is to have a slim face. Asian jaw muscles tend to be large and boxy, causing the face to look broad near the jawline. This also happens to people who chew a alot e.g. chewing gum or people who grind their teeth when they sleep, also known as bruxism. SBA Clinic employs the use of BTX (BTX, Dysport, Xeomin) to reduce jaw width, resulting in an elegant lower face.
Having a V-shaped face can be achieved with a few simple injections. BTX delivered into the jaw muscles (masseter) will cause the muscle to decrease in size (atrophy) and make the jawline more defined and V-shaped. Your doctor will assess your jaw muscles and determine your suitability for the treatment. This procedure may also be combined with chin fillers to create a sharper chin.
Before the injection, your doctor will get you to perform a few actions to feel the muscles and mark out the injection points. 2-3 injections using a fine needle on each side will deliver the BTX into the muscle. The procedure is painless and will take about 5 minutes. No prior topical or local aesthetic is required for this procedure. Use of a ice-pack or cold compress can help to make the procedure more comfortable.
What to expect after injection
There is no downtime and you can return to work immediately after the treatment.
In the first week after injection, you may experience an aching sensation over the masseter especially when chewing. This is temporary and will resolve within 1 week. The muscles will start to get noticeably smaller in 2-4 weeks and create the desired V-shaped face. Effects of BTX will last between 4-6 months. Repeated injections over the masseter may cause the muscle atrophy to become permanent.
It is recommended that you do 3 rounds of BTX FaceSlim treatments in the first year, 2 rounds in the second year and possibly once every 9 months thereafter.
